The Wine Council of Ontario and Szabo & Szabo to continue province-wide Restaurant Education in 2006
After a highly successful completion of The Wine Council of Ontario’s first full-scale, province-wide education program for licencees in 2005, participating wineries had decided to keep the program running throughout 2006, capitalizing on the heart- warming feedback, the momentum and the growing popularity of VQA Ontario wines. The program, developed, implemented and presented by John Szabo and Zoltan Szabo of Szabo & Szabo Drinks Trade Consultants, is designed to educate restaurant staff about premium VQA Ontario wine. The seminar includes a virtual tour of Ontario’s wine growing regions, practical food and wine pairing, and a blind tasting of benchmark Ontario wine styles. The program is aimed at raising awareness of premium Ontario wine in the restaurant sector. It is offered at no charge to licencees. Both floor and kitchen staff are invited to participate in the seminars, emphasizing the harmony of Ontario wines with a wide range of cuisines.
The program had a number of 36 restaurants across Ontario participating in it in 2005, including last year’s VQA Award of Excellents for Restaurants winners, other high profile and high potential venues such as Splendido, Il Mulino, Truffles of the Four Seasons Hotel, The Royal York & Chateau Laurier of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Canoe & Auberge du Pommier of Oliver Bonacini Restaurants, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Toronto & Mississauga, The Platinum Club of the Air Canada Centre, Annona of the Park Hyatt Hotel, White Oaks Resort & Inn on the Twenty in Niagara wine counrty, The London Club in London, Ontario, La Bodega Lounge & Beckta Dining in Ottawa, The Breadalbane Inn in Fergus, Ontario among others.
